Resume Tape / Capstone

Finally my capstone presentation has come and gone, and I am just one step closer to graduation. The main component to my capstone project was a resume tape, geared around sports broadcasting and the work that I have done at my time at Westminster. So after a long time of doing research and talking to some experts in the field I have used the information to create my first resume tape. It runs five minutes in length and showcases some of my best work that I have done so far in my sports broadcasting career. Is it perfect? Not yet, there are still some parts that it is lacking in, but for my first resume tape I am please with how it turned out. For all that watch this I would really appriciate your thoughts and/or critisms.

Penguins Nation week 3

In this edition of Penguins Nation, the Pens are moving on after a 4-game sweep of the Ottawa Senators. Doug and I discuss the Pens success, and what they will do in the future regardless of which team they play, becuase at this point they could have Washington, the Rangers, or the Bruins in the second round. Now it will either be the Capitals or th Rangers. The Pens have not had to play a game yet since the sweep of the Senators, so we will hold off on the next edition of Penguins Nation till friday when we should have a better idea about who the Pens next opponent will be.

2nd edition of pens nation

In this edition of the Pens nation, it is playoff time and Doug and I discuss what the pens need to do in the first round versus the Ottowa Senators. Prior to the game however the coach of Ottowa was quoted in the paper, hinting that the Penguins threw the game against Phili so they could play Ottowa in the first round, this is a hot button issue that Doug and I make sure to adress in this edition of Pens Nation.

About a year ago, Doug and I had the idea that we really wanted to have some kind of show where we could talk about the Pittsburgh Penguins. So finally we got out a camera, sat down at a table, and hit record. This is the first ever edition of Penguins Nation, and in this webcast Doug and I discuss the Pens woes on the power play following their game against the New York Rangers. We also discuss the play of Jarkko Ruutu and what the Pens can expect with the return of Gary Roberts. I hope everyone enjoys this and please add comments for things that could be done different or if there were things that you liked. We do plan on jazzing up the graphic at the beginning a little bit with a little music and a Pens logo.

tips for resume tape

With my capstone presentation date set ive just about finished my poster for my presentation, which explains certain characteristics that a resume tape for sports should have. And after looking through my literature review I have developed several ideas for a sports resume tape

Be Creative
Use only your best shows/packages and make sure to put them in the beginning of your tape
Be yourself, don’t try and imitate other sports casters
Average runtime for a resume tape is between 3 and 5 minutes
Put a slate in the beginning of your tape with your name, phone number, and email address.

These are some of the most important things that I found when creating a resume tape. And I hope that these steps help some other inspiring sports anchors in the future.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN

I have finally come to the realization that I am in my final semester of my college career. And with that, there are a ton of things that I need to get done to ensure that I will be getting out of here on time. Right now the major ordeal on my plate is my capstone project. I recently had a meeting with Weaver that really helped me to sort things out and establish a plan for what my presentation will consist of. My conclusion of my project will be me showing my resume tape. For the rest of my presentation I will begin by showing 5-10 steps in putting together a successful resume tape. The next part of my poster presentation will show the expert advice I found on the topics, to do this I will go back through my lit review to find the best sources to use. And during our meeting Weaver gave me a good piece of information to think about, that being that he knows someone is going to come up to me during my presentation and ask me “why didn’t you take a internship?” and at the moment I don’t have a good answer, other then I don’t think the Sebastian ( my alumni) had an internship. Plus I sent TJ an email asking if it would be possible for me to come with him to work a couple of times and shadow him, just so I can have some field experience to my credit. So as of right now this is what I will be doing over my spring break. LUCKY ME!

PACKAGES

This week for Titan Town Sports I had to talk more then I think I ever have had to in my time doing titan town sports. The reason for all my talking was due to a lack of packages. And I don’t want to single anyone out, but someone tells you that they are going to do a package for the show you are really depending on them to come through. Especially during a time when we are going through a highlight dry spell. Now that basketball season is over, and with snow on the ground for spring sports, we have to rely heavily on packages and feature stories. Last week we had a couple of packages fall through, which made Titan Town Sports really light on time, but I guess it is better to be light then heavy. TJ and I gave out two package ideas for this weeks show, and I am hoping that they come through for this week. I have all the confidence in the world in our crew, and I’m not expecting perfection, but I am expecting that packages get done. And I have faith that we will have at least two packages for this weeks show.
