Class was a little unusual today with all the talk about Avatars and everything about them. I knew that certain people were involved in these kinds of things, but i only associated them with online gamers. I know right away i thought of my younger brother becuase as i have said in a previous blog, he plays World of Warcraft online and he has his little character that represents him.
However some of the things that i saw today blew my mind. I didnt realize how many different Avatars there were and how many different sites there were for all these people.
Now im all for people persuing happiness and finding that thing or person that makes them happy, but seriously, that a coulple hours, step outside of your house, call up your friends (assuming that you have any) and GO OUT!!! The only people you are going to meet in these sites are divorced moms and shut ins, and who really wants to be with that.
I understand that people get lonely and that is understandable, but instead of sitting around wallowing in your self pitty, take the time to go out and meet some new people, it isnt that difficult.

David I agree with you in the idea that people should GO OUT and meet new people. I understand that maybe on a rainy day, these virtual worlds may be entertaining or interesting to spend some time in. To be honest, until learning about avatars and virtual world's in class the other day, I had no idea they even exisited. I have heard of the game Sims, but I did not know that there were similar things actually online where you could communicate with other people. Avatars and online virtual worlds are just another example of how the internet has become such a major part of our lives. No offense to anyone, but I just don't get it? I'd much rather spend time hanging out with my friends or family or even watching TV then being involved in a virtual world. But I guess it works for some people and it is what they like to do, so I can't bash it. All I have to say is it was an interesting surprise to learn about them and they're just not for me.
Yeah, I agree with you too, I don't see what the big attraction is with sitting at a computer for hours on end lost in a virtual world. While these people might argue that they're interacting with other people online, I would say that they are actually becoming very socially deprived by wasting their lives online! While a little bit of time spent playing with avatars might be harmless, it can't take over your life...that would be very pathetic indeed.
